10/01/2003 Nanoscreen, LLC N/A 60 NanoScreen, LLC, announced the location of its corporate headquarters, R&D and distribution center in the Charleston region. The company serves major pharmaceutical companies with pipette tips and automated dispensing systems used in drug discovery and other early-stage research. Charleston's growing technology base and desirable lifestyle attributes were key factors in the company’s decision to locate here.
06/23/2003 ArjoWiggins Medical, Inc. $3.0 million 18 ArjoWiggins Medical, Inc., the medical division of specialty paper manufacturer ArjoWiggins, SAS of Paris, France, has relocated its medical division from Atlanta to the Charleston region. The move includes the division headquarters, distribution and light manufacturing.
06/09/2003 Classic Granite & Marble $0.5 million 10 Classic Granite & Marble is establishing a distribution center in the region. The company supplies residential and commercial contractors with granite, marble and other natural stones. According to company officials, the Port of Charleston and the region’s robust economy were key factors in their decision. (Mfg NAICS 33; Distribution NAICS 42132)
05/21/2003 Rhodia, Inc. $3.0 million N/A Rhodia, a France-based manufacturer and marketer of specialty chemicals, has expanded its operations in Charleston with the addition of a new laboratory and office building. Charleston is the main North American site for the company's Phosphorus and Performance Deliveries (PPD) Enterprise, which manufactures a variety of products used in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, textiles, construction and other industries.
04/22/2003 National Association for Continence (NAFC) N/A 6 The NAFC, a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people who suffer from incontinence, has relocated its headquarters to the Charleston region.
04/04/2003 Dover Hydraulics, Inc. $0.75 million 20 Dover Hydraulics is opening a facility dedicated to the repair and reconditioning of hydraulic cylinders and components. The company primarily serves the steel, aluminum, paper, marine, construction, mining, salvage and scrap industries.
03/26/2003 Coastal Glass Distributors, LLC $3.0 million 50 Coastal Glass Distributors, LLC, an architectural glass fabricator, announced that it will triple its capacity in order to accommodate growth in its business.
03/20/2003 Arcadia Publishing $1.8 million 25 Arcadia Publishing, the largest publisher of books on local histories, will expand its corporate offices and consolidate its national distribution center to a new $1.8 million facility. Arcadia is part of the United Kingdom-based Tempus Publishing Group.
03/13/2003 Modulant Solutions, Inc. $9.83 million 96 Modulant, a leading provider of data interoperability software, announced the consolidation of its operations to the Charleston region. In moving its headquarters from San Francisco, the company plans to create 96 new jobs and invest $9.825 million over the next five years.
03/10/2003 Zeltwanger, LP $1.6 million 24 Germany-based Zeltwanger LP will establish a North American presence with the location of a manufacturing operation in the Charleston region. The company designs, manufactures and assembles high-precision components and systems for use in numerous automated manufacturing processes.
01/30/2003 Mercedes-Benz Lenkungen U.S., LLC (MBL US) $8.0 million 50 MBL U.S., a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG, announced the launch of a new steering systems manufacturing operation that will produce and sell steering components for the North American market. Production at the plant is expected to reach full capacity in 2005.
01/30/2003 Forest Technology Group $1.33 million 58 Forest Technology Group, a business delivering information technologies and services internationally to help organizations manage natural resources, has expanded its corporate headquarters in the region. The ongoing growth of its customer base, plus future business projections, made it necessary for the company to find a larger office facility.
01/20/2003 Coronet North America $3.0 million 40 Coronet North America, a division of Germany-based Coronet-Werke GmbH, has chosen to locate a manufacturing and distribution operation in the Charleston region.
