Gibbes Museum of Art will present a three-part series on the dark side of the art world lead by authors and an art historian. “Scandals: Famous Cases in the Art World” will take place over three Wednesdays at 6 p.m. (Feb. 23, March 2 & 9). Each lecture will be followed by a wine and cheese reception and opportunity to meet the guest speaker.
For an individual lecture, tickets are $20 for Gibbes members and $30 for non-members. Save some money by purchasing a ticket to all three lectures with $50 tickets for Gibbes members and $80 for non-members.

- Feb. 23- The Art of the Steal—Inside the Sotheby’s-Christie’s Auction House Scandal: Author and journalist Christopher Mason will provide an inside look at the Sotheby’s-Christie’s price-fixing scandal that surfaced in the spring of 2000. This gripping tale of greed and corruption follows the powerful personalities who broke the law, resulting in jail time and over $500 million in fines.
- March 2- The Isabella Stewart Gardner Art Heist: Unlocking the Mystery Behind the World’s Largest Art Theft: Join author Ulrich Boser as he sheds light on the world’s largest art heist, the 1990 theft at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. Posed as cops, thieves broke into the museum in the early morning hours and escaped with priceless masterpieces, including three Rembrandts and a Vermeer—paintings that have yet to be recovered.
- March 9- Reclaimed: The Restitution of Nazi-looted Art from the Goudstikker Collection: Dr. Frank Lord, cultural property lawyer and art historian in New York City, will speak about his involvement with the recent restitution of artwork from the collection of Jacques Goudstikker. In 1940, Goudstikker, a Jewish art dealer, fled the Netherlands during the Nazi invasion, leaving behind over 1,200 artworks that were seized by the Nazi forces
