Charitable Summerville Teen Featured on ABC Show

One 40-pound cabbage helped fuel a charitable Summerville teen's dreams.

What do you get when you combine a 9 year-old and a 40-pound cabbage? In Katie Stagliano’s case, you get a feast for the needy! Stagliano, from Summerville, was recently featured on ABC’s  “Everyday Health”. The 30-minute show, co hosted by Laila Ali, Ethan Zohn and Jenny Morasca, focuses on stories of people who have made a positive impact on health in their community.

For Stagliano, “positive impact” would be an understatement. Now 13, Katie is the founder of Katie’s Krops, a non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining vegetable gardens and donating the harvest to help feed people in need.

Katie’s Krops began with a simple school project, when Stagliano took home a cabbage seedling that grew into a 40-pound cabbage. She donated the cabbage to Tri County Family Ministries and helped feed over 275 people! Since that day, Stagliano has donated thousands of pounds of fresh produce to local organizations.

During the “Everyday Health” episode, Stagliano enjoyed a national audience as she showcased her farms and produce. She even joined forces with nationally acclaimed nutritionist and chef, Ellie Krieger to prepare a pasta dish with produce, herbs and spices straight from Katie’s Krops farms. The episode aired on Saturday at 11 am on ABC.
