Local alternative weekly, Charleston City Paper, announced the launch of an iPhone app, Cocktail Compass. Cocktail Compass is a free app that shows nearby happy hours based on your current GPS location.

The app also serves as a directory for bars and restaurants in the Charleston area. There are some nifty features including: a cab icon for those that enjoyed happy hour a little too much, ability to bookmark favorites, email bar info to friends and even a feature search for things like wifi or live music.

I applaud City Paper for broadening their product offerings and can only imagine the possibilities for more apps. My only request –how about some Blackberry apps!
