IAA 2015 Charleston, South Carolina, USA

The Charleston region is proud to join the South Carolina delegation at IAA, held in Frankfurt, Germany this month. Our automotive sector is growing with a tremendous amount of momentum and opportunities for suppliers and talent alike. We’re more than excited to share Charleston’s story in Germany.

The previous IAA conference attracted 881,100 visitors and housed 1,098 registered exhibitors from all over the world. The IAA positions itself as the “most comprehensive show of the automobile industry for everybody who develops, manufactures or uses passenger cars.”

Charleston | SC | USA is proud to be home to more than 100 automotive manufacturers and suppliers, 6,500+ technically-skilled workers, and the only two new vehicle assembly plants announced in the U.S. since 2009.

Leading employers include: Robert Bosch, IFA Rotorion, Cummins Turbo Technologies, Daimler, and Volvo. Daimler has been in the Charleston market since 2006 and announced earlier this year an expansion of a new OEM manufacturing plant for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans. Volvo also announced this year its plans to locate its first North American factory in the Charleston region and is expected to roll out the first American-built Volvos by 2018.

Charleston’s competitive advantages include:

  • The Port of Charleston boasts the deepest harbor in the South Atlantic and provides global access to 150+ countries
  • Charleston is the #2 highest employment concentration for transportation equipment among mid-size U.S. metros
  • Charleston offers a competitive wage structure for automotive manufacturing occupations
