Charleston Regional Business Journal
One million dollars in contributions from William Murray will establish The Murray Center for Research on Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders at the Medical University of South Carolina. This is the only Parkinson’s disease research center in the state.

Murray’s contributions have enabled the center to study the role of inflammation and anti-imflammatory medications to stop the disease’s progress, begin an investigation of the role of early maternal infection in the risk of Parkinson’s disease in animal models, study distribution of Parkinson’s disease in South Carolina and explore the role of environment in this disease, study how deep brain stimulation works in reversing the motor systems of Parkinson’s disease patients and explore how Parkinson’s disease affects cognitive function.
