Army awards $12.4M contract to North Charleston business

A North Charleston business has won a $12.4 million contract to build shipping and storage containers for the Army, according to a news release from the Department of Defense.

Charleston Marine Containers Inc. will perform the work in North Charleston and expects to finish by Sept. 10, 2012. The business will make an indefinite amount of containers up to the contractual dollar amount.

Charleston Marine Containers, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gichner Systems Group Inc., opened in 1996. It builds shipping containers that are used by the military for storage, and it makes customized containers that can be used for office space or living quarters.
