Over a mix of Swiss cuisine and Charleston fare, Belimed Inc. recently celebrated its new U.S. headquarters in the Lowcountry.

The infection control company was relocated from Miami last year and moved into its new digs on Clements Ferry Road in November, though it had been operating out of a temporary site in Charleston for several months.

The Switzerland-based medical supplier is recognized as a world leader in the production of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization equipment for hospitals and other related facilities. The local office employs 35 people. An additional 65 workers, largely service technicians and sales representatives, are spread across the country, said Laura Francis, Belimed’s marketing communications manager.

Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. and Berkeley County Supervisor Dan Davis headlined the festive affair, along with the company’s U.S. president, Joseph McDonald, and Niklaus Sauter of Switzerland, Belimed’s group managing director.

The nearly 100 people attending the Jan. 29 event were treated to an upfront view of the company’s products while indulging in Swiss-themed food, drink and music, with a few examples of Charleston eats thrown into the mix.

Belimed is a division of Metal-Zug, a Swiss company whose annual sales total nearly $500 million.
