Benefitfocus, a provider of software and services for the health-care benefits industry, has opened a media studio at the company’s Daniel Island headquarters.

Benefitfocus Media, a new consumer-focused division of the company, will produce easy-to-understand informational videos, interactive broadcasts, patient and doctor testimonials and other media products.

“This new addition to our products and services will help transform the complicated world of health care into easily understood videos,” said Shawn Jenkins, Benefitfocus president and CEO. “This significant investment further widens our lead in automating health care while bringing communications to consumers and patients.”

The multimillion-dollar studio is outfitted with high-definition technology including cameras and postproduction equipment. Nina Sossomon-Pogue, director of Benefitfocus Media and former WCIV-TV news anchor, will lead a media team including producers, reporters, photojournalists, directors, production managers, graphic designers, editors and on-air personalities.

Benefitfocus offers a technology platform to carriers, brokers and employer groups through which employees can access and control their health care benefits electronically. Benefitfocus products and services are used by more than 89,000 corporate clients, with 40 million users through 150 health care insurance carriers in all 50 U.S. states and 26 countries.

Clients include BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Companion Life and Wellmark. In addition to its Daniel Island headquarters, Benefitfocus has satellite offices in nine cities including Greenville, Columbia, Charlotte, N.C., and Atlanta.
