After inventing the ceiling mounted boom for operating rooms (OR) more than 40 years ago, BERCHTOLD ® Corporation is bringing its industry leading technology to the critical care environment. The South Carolina-based medical equipment manufacturer has launched a new line of TELETOM® equipment management systems specifically designed to meet the precise needs of critical care.

“Because TELETOM is highly versatile, configurable and easy to use, our customers from the OR began requesting the TELETOM for their critical care units,” said Matt Weismiller, President of BERCHTOLD. “After extensive research and reviewing direct feedback from our customers across the nation, we developed a TELETOM specifically designed to support the unique needs of the critical care environment.”

The ceiling-mounted TELETOM offers a number of options to the critical care environment including a choice of suspensions, easy-to-clean surfaces, removable accessories, integrated power and gas outlets, as well as organization of cords and cables in a safe and efficient manner.

All stakeholders involved in the care process can benefit from the highly adaptable solution, including staff members, patients and their families.

Benefits for staff members – TELETOM provides a complete and maneuverable workstation for the clinical staff right at the patient’s bedside, allowing total access to the patient in case of an emergency. With all equipment and supplies at the staff member’s fingertips, TELETOM eliminates the need for carts, storage clutter and transportation of hazardous materials. Also, the system’s task lighting and easy repositioning allows clinical staff to work without disturbing the patient, creating a better healing environment.

Benefits for patients – The patient receives faster and more efficient treatment because needed equipment and supplies are easy to access and close at hand for critical care staff members, while unnecessary items can be easily removed to provide a more comfortable atmosphere.

Benefits for family members – Initially, equipment or supplies that might concern the family can be placed strategically out of sight on the TELETOM. As the patient improves, equipment can be removed or relocated on the TELETOM, giving the family visual signs of the patient’s progression.

BERCHTOLD recognizes that medical equipment and technologies are constantly changing, and the TELETOM design is uniquely capable of being configured and upgraded to accommodate future needs in the critical care environment. Whether simply adding accessories – or cost-effectively upgrading to new technology platforms – the TELETOM is prepared to adapt to future changes, which can lead to minimal downtime and a more productive critical care unit.

“As a leader in the healthcare technology industry, BERCHTOLD develops and delivers excellent solutions for today’s critical care and OR challenges,” added Weismiller. “And by anticipating change in clinical practice and technology, we are also preparing for the needs of tomorrow’s working environments. The deep understanding of our customers will help maintain our position as a provider of choice in the U.S. and worldwide.”
