Bike and pedestrian plan for Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties to be presented

A detailed plan to make the tri-county Charleston area safer and more accessible for bicyclists and pedestrians will be laid out Wednesday at Park Circle, and is meant to guide the region’s planning for a decade to come.

Ten months and $200,000 in the making, the “Walk + Bike BCD” plan catalogs challenges that pedestrians and bikers face and spells out plans to overcome them, primarily with intersection improvements and new networks of multi-use paths, sidewalks and bike lanes.

Plans are typically necessary to get funding, and ultimately its funding will determine when and if the proposed improvements are realized.
