Charleston firms win SPAWAR contract

BAE Systems and SAIC each received a government contract that could be worth nearly $700 million for work to be performed at the companies’ Charleston locations.

The two companies will engineer and integrate prototypes and software, while also inspecting, testing, evaluating and delivering prototype communications and command systems for military vehicles.

BAE Systems and SAIC received $12,500 when the contract was awarded, and the contract includes options that bring the value to roughly $698 million.

The Department of Defense expects work to finish by February 2013, though it could extend to February 2017 if the department exercises all of the contract’s options.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic is the contracting agency.
