Charleston-based Argolyn Bioscience receives third patent

Charleston-based Argolyn Bioscience, a peptide drug development company, has added a third issued patent to its growing intellectual property portfolio. The patent, titled Positively charged non-natural amino acids, methods of making thereof, and uses thereof in peptides, covers the structure and uses of another set of compounds invented by Dr. Thomas A Dix and exclusively licensed to Argolyn for the optimization of peptide-based pharmaceutical candidates.

“This is a key patent for Argolyn because it is the first patent in a second series of compounds that are fundamental to our work,” says Argolyn president, Pearce Gilbert. “Although there are no guarantees, it suggests that the remaining patents in this second series will issue in due course. We are very pleased to have this one under our belts.”

Argolyn has a total of six other U.S. patents currently pending, with foreign equivalents also pending in the major world markets.
