Charleston’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center to share $179 million in federal funding

Charleston Regional Business Journal
Charleston’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center—SPAWAR, for short—will share $179 million with Clemson University, the University of South Carolina, the S.C. National Guard and several defense contractors for 32 defense projects. U.S. Senators Fritz Hollings and Lindsey Graham secured the funding from a 2005 Defense Department appropriations bill.

Hollings says the money will enable South Carolina to do “cutting-edge research to support our troops, to fight terrorism and to bring medical developments that will not only help troops but can benefit everyone.”
