Dec. 1, 2001
Charleston Regional Business Journal
The College of Charleston is participating in a $5.9 million statewide initiative to increase biomedical research in South Carolina and has been awarded $620,000 for its part in the National Institutes of Health-funded project.

The college will be working with the South Carolina Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network, consisting of the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina and Clemson University. In addition to working with the College of Charleston, these three schools will be working with South Carolina State University and Furman University to foster and further develop biomedical research.

Faculty and students from 24 other four-year South Carolina colleges and universities will be recruited into research laboratories of both the “mentor” (MUSC, USC and Clemson) and “mentored” schools (C of C, SCSU and Furman).
