An Austin-based consulting firm has suggested putting an immediate focus on attracting, retaining and starting aerospace companies in the Lowcountry.

Avalanche Consulting made its recommendation in its two-year report card of Opportunity Next, an economic development strategy for the Lowcountry put together by the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.

“Aerospace remains the region’s top recruitment target,” according to the report card. “Seize opportunities sparked by Boeing’s continued investment in the region. Invest in aerospace business development, including staff resources to global manufacturing suppliers, R&D, composites and IT in the industry. Continue to foster a strong partnership with Boeing and fuel this industry with the workforce it needs.”

Avalanche suggest focusing on recruiting new aerospace companies during 2013-2014. At the Paris Air Show, the CRDA and other South Carolina representatives met with 22 prospect companies and four aerospace journalists.

“Our community continues to receives strong global recognition as a great place to do business,” wrote David Ginn, CEO of CRDA, in an email to investors.
