A Dorchester County boat maker is investing $2.35 million and adding 50 jobs as it expands and moves to a bigger factory, the S.C. Commerce Department said today.

Sportsman Boats Manufacturing Inc. is relocating to 113 Isaac Way, which will give the company 72,600 square feet of space. It current facility is on Spaniel Lane in Summerville.

The company said the expansion will allow it to add production capacity and bring new models to its lineup of recreational boats.

It expects to be fully moved in by Labor Day. Sportsman Boats plans to increase its payroll over the next five years.

“We are pleased with the success we’ve had here in Dorchester County and we’re looking forward to growing our operations here. This expansion is a big step for our company,” said Tommy Hancock, president.

Sportsman Boats opened in Summerville two years ago.

It will begin hiring for the new positions this month.
