E-commerce firm Blue Acorn sold for undisclosed sum in one of Charleston’s first tech deals this year

A Charleston agency that designs online shopping websites has made its biggest sale yet: a majority stake in its business.

Blue Acorn said Monday that it’s being acquired by the Canadian private equity firm Beringer Capital, marking one of the first deals of the year in the region’s technology sector.

With $50 million acquisition, Charleston tech stalwart Blackbaud doubles down on schools

Three years after Blackbaud first staked a claim to the business of selling software to schools, the Charleston technology giant is doubling down on the education market with its biggest acquisition in over a year.

The company said this week it spent $50 million to buy a Texas-based startup that it hopes will help extend its reach into colleges’ computer systems.

The purchase of Austin-based AcademicWorks strikes at an emerging strategy for Blackbaud, the Charleston region’s most valuable publicly traded company.

PhishLabs Relocates Headquarters In Charleston, South Carolina

A leading provider of cybersecurity services, PhishLabs is expanding its existing operations at a new headquarters facility in Charleston, South Carolina. To accommodate its continued growth, the company is expecting to create 45 new jobs over the next three years.

To expand, the company will be moving its corporate headquarters operations into a new, 25,000-square-foot facility at the Pacific Box and Crate development, located at 1501 King Street in Charleston. The facility will feature open green space, a coffee shop, a yoga studio and other work amenities.
