Five local companies are among those that have been chosen to serve as prime contractors on a new $51.4 million information technology contract for the Space and Navy Warfare Systems Command Charleston.

Liberty Business Associates of North Charleston, Quintech Security Consultants of Summerville, UEC Electronics of Hanahan, Vector Planning and Services Inc. of Hanahan and Varner Miller Associates of Mount Pleasant are among the vendors chosen to provide program management and technical support services under a recently let competitive contract.

The contract includes two one-year options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to $157.8 million.

According to a notice of the decision issued by the U.S. Department of Defense, about 60% of the work fulfilling the contract will be performed in Charleston, with the remaining 40% being performed in Norfolk, Va.
