Four S.C. technical colleges receive more than $1.7 million

Four state technical colleges will receive $1.7 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. announced Monday.

Receiving the grants are Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, Technical College of the Lowcountry, Tri-County Technical College and Trident Technical College.

The grants are:

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College
* $311,642 grant through the Predominantly Black Institutions Program. The funds will be used to increase and impact professional education opportunities for low- and middle-income black students in the undeveloped, predominantly rural and minority geographic areas of South Carolina.

Technical College of the Lowcountry
* $250,000 grant through the Predominantly Black Institutions Program. The funds will be used to increase and impact professional education opportunities for low- and middle-income black students in the undeveloped, predominantly rural and minority geographic areas of South Carolina.

Tri-County Technical College
* $399,413 grant through the Strengthening Institutions Program. The funds will be used to improve academic quality, institutional management and fiscal stability, and increase self-sufficiency.

Trident Technical College
* $748,284 grant through the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education Comprehensive Program. The funds will be used for the TTC College Bound program focused on better preparing high school students for college placement.
