German auto parts maker beefs up Charleston presence with new plant

Even as they cut the ribbon on a new manufacturing campus near Summerville, executives with German auto parts maker IFA Group said they’re worried about how tariffs and a potential trade war could affect their cost of doing business.

But they also noted that it’s up to all sides, not just the U.S., to find a solution to trade barriers and avoid withdrawing into protectionism.

“Yes, there is a concern,” Robert Gutsche, CEO of IFA Group, said Thursday of tariffs President Donald Trump enacted this month on aluminum and steel imports.
