South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., as well as distinguished guests from Germany and hospitals across the country are scheduled to be on hand Wednesday, October 28th to help TRUMPF Medical System, Inc. officially christen its new home on the shores of the Cooper River. Festivities at the invitation-only event, including comments from Governor Sanford and Mayor Riley and facilities tours, will begin promptly at 5:00 PM at the company’s new building at 1046 LeGrand Blvd. in Charleston.

A leading medical technology company, TRUMPF Medical Systems designs, manufactures and installs medical products and systems used to improve safety and efficiency in operating rooms, critical care units and emergency departments. Among its product lines are: modular Surgical Tables and System Tables; LED Surgical Lights; ceiling-mounted Equipment Management Systems and innovative “No lift” patient transfer and transport solutions. The company consults with hospitals, architects and equipment planners on patient care and workflow efficiency. Among TRUMPF‘s customers are both small hospitals and the leading healthcare systems in North America.

Continuing to Call Charleston Home
Joining Governor Sanford and Mayor Riley at the speakers podium will be Prof. Berthold Leibinger, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the TRUMPF Group. Leibinger will travel from Germany to the US specifically for the occasion. His vision and ongoing support have contributed significantly to the TRUMPF Group’s expansion into the United States and the success of TRUMPF Medical Systems. After opening its doors in Charleston in 2000, recent growth at the US medical division created a need for its own expansion. An extensive relocation search, that included consideration of other TRUMPF-owned properties in Connecticut, New Jersey and Michigan, was initiated. Ultimately the company decided to stay in Charleston where it plans to invest $5.58 million and create 29 new jobs within the next three years.

“Based on our experience here, we ultimately decided Charleston offered the best overall environment to support our long-term success,” said TRUMPF Medical Systems, Inc. President and CEO Andy Reding. He cited a growing cluster of medical technology companies, a strong local talent base, a highly efficient seaport, and an excellent environment for customer visits as key factors in the decision.

New State-of-the-Art Facilities
After breaking ground in the Spring of 2009, TRUMPF Medical’s new US headquarters quickly took shape, according to plan. The state-of-the-art building, located on a 2.5-acre site next to the Cooper River, blends a modern industrial look in a natural environment. Beginning October 28th hospital clinicians and administrators, architects, eqiupment planners / designers and technology partners will find a leading-edge, hands-on medical planning center demonstrating the state-of-the-art medical environments achievable with TRUMPF products and processes. The main showroom will feature various configurations of surgical lights, Equipment Management Systems (OR, ICU and ED/ER) and surgical tables. In addition, a fully integrated 24’x24’ modular operating room will be fully assembled that provides customers an alternative to standard construction methods. A demonstration area will be available to create specialized room designs allowing each visiting hospital to see solutions optimized for improved patient care, safety and efficiency. Hospital personnel will then be able to fine tune the design of their operating rooms, critical care and emergency departments prior to actual installation.
On a day-to-day basis the new building will enhance the company’s operations with clustered workstations designed to create better customer service, communications and workflow. The 27,000-square-foot facility is expandable to 49,000 square feet to accommodate future growth.
“In every way this is truly a milestone in terms of our growth and the expanded service we will be able to offer our customers,” said Reding.
