A manufacturer of hydraulic hammers and components is locating a new facility in Summerville, bringing $1.5 million in investment and possibly more than 70 jobs to the area over five years.

Maverick Equipment Manufacturing Inc. already moved its sales office to the new location at 2745 W. Fifth North St., the S.C. Department of Commerce and Dorchester County announced this morning.

“We are excited about this new facility and look forward to starting operations at our new manufacturing facility,” said Sean Raimbeault, president of Maverick Equipment Manufacturing. “Dorchester County offers us an excellent business environment and exceptional market access. We appreciate all the support we have received from state and local officials.”

Dorchester County Council Chairman Jamie Feltner said, “We are excited to be announcing Maverick’s decision to locate in our community, and this announcement is an affirmation of the efforts and investment we are making to attract businesses and jobs to Dorchester County.”

Raimbeault said the assistance and access to resources by the state and county ultimately influenced the company’s decision to locate in Dorchester County.

Commerce Secretary Joe Taylor said Maverick’s move shows that the state and Dorchester County have put enough incentives in place to attract high-end manufacturers, including low taxes and minimal regulatory controls.

“By continuing this commitment to further strengthen our business-friendly climate, the state will be well-positioned for future growth. We congratulate Maverick Equipment Manufacturing on its investment and wish the company much success in its endeavors here,” Taylor said.
