As local jobs boom, new study finds growing gaps in Charleston’s workforce

Looking for a job in the next few years? You could do worse than technology or manufacturing.

Those sectors — still relatively small but quickly growing in prominence — are expected to keep driving much of the Charleston area’s job growth over the next few years, predicted to grow their ranks by close to 20 percent by the end of the decade.

But as workers with tech and manufacturing expertise come into greater demand, the Lowcountry is unlikely to be able to fill those jobs with home-grown talent.
