Metalworx Inc. plans to invest $2.3 million and create around 25 new jobs in the next five years as part of its expansion plan in Dorchester County, the S.C. Department of Commerce announced Wednesday.

The company is adding on a 16,000-square-foot facility next to its existing operation at the East Port Commerce Park in Summerville. Additionally, Metalworx purchased another 8,000 square-foot facility down the road.

“We are pleased to move forward with our expansion plans in Summerville. Our company has had great success in South Carolina during the past few years, and this expansion will help us meet growing customer demand,” said Michael Sawer, president of Metalworx Inc.

Jamie Feltner, chairman of the Dorchester County Council, called the deal a boon for Dorchester County as Metalworx, saying Metalworx is “one of the fastest growing companies in the region.”

Metalworx, an industrial machine and fabrication company, started up in Charleston in 1997 and moved to North Charleston several years later. The company moved to Summerville in 2005.

The company provides full-service conventional and production machining and metal fabricating services to the medical, steel, military, automotive and other industries in the Southeast.
