The South Carolina Department of Commerce, Berkeley County and the South Carolina State Ports Authority (SCSPA) today announced that Moulton Logistics Management will locate its new distribution and logistics facility in Berkeley County. The $25 million investment is expected to generate 500 new jobs in the next five years.

“The addition of the new East Coast facility will provide many benefits for our clients including the reduction of freight costs and transit times, which indirectly leads to a reduction in customer service costs and ultimately higher customer satisfaction. Our new facility in Berkeley County not only allows us to ship across the Atlantic, it also puts us closer to customers on the East Coast. South Carolina’s positive business environment and excellent port in Charleston will be important keys to our success on the East Coast. We appreciate all the support we have received from state and local officials,” said Patrick Moulton, head of new business development for Moulton Logistics.

Moulton Logistics, based in Los Angeles, will locate a new distribution center near Charleston in Berkeley County. This strategic location will allow Moulton Logistics to provide access to markets in Europe and across the Atlantic Ocean. The new facility will also better service the company’s East Coast customers by reducing delivery costs and transit times.

“Moulton Logistics Management’s decision to make a substantial investment of capital and jobs is a telling sign that we’re making real progress to increase our state’s competitive advantage by bettering the business climate with lower taxes and reforms that ease regulatory burdens. As well, in today’s global competition for new jobs this announcement is an indication that we are indeed moving in the right direction and the hard-working team at the Department of Commerce and the local economic community should be commended for their efforts in bringing job opportunities to Berkeley County,” says Governor Mark Sanford.

“Moulton Logistics Management is a leader in the field of integrated logistics, and its facility in South Carolina will provide the company with new market access and a means to better service its current customers,” said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce. “The Port of Charleston is fundamental driver in advancing economic development in South Carolina and today’s announcement is another sign that Commerce’s partnership with the Ports Authority under Jim Newsome’s leadership continues to pay dividends. Moulton Logistics’ investment in our state is also further evidence that the port, along with our exceptional market access, business-friendly climate and reliable workforce are working to attract new jobs and investments here. We welcome Moulton Logistics Management to South Carolina and look forward to a long mutually beneficial relationship with them in the years ahead.”

“As we continue to attract world-class companies to Berkeley County, our community continues to grow and prosper. Moulton Logistics has recognized the many benefits of being in this region of South Carolina with the Port of Charleston and the quality labor force available in Berkeley County,” said Berkeley County Supervisor Dan Davis. “We welcome and support Moulton Logistics in their new and expanded home in our County.”

“This significant new investment is a testament to Moulton Logistic’s confidence in the state’s seat at the table when it comes to global trade, and our port’s world-renowned, efficient operations. It also speaks volumes about Moulton’s faith in South Carolina’s dedicated, hardworking men and women,” said state Sen. Larry Grooms, chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee. Grooms represents the area in which the new facility is located.

Moulton Logistics’ new facility will be located in close proximity to the Port of Charleston. The Port of Charleston is the deepest port in the Southeast and one of the busiest ports among ports located in the Southeast and Gulf coasts. The Charleston Customs district ranks as the nation’s eighth largest in dollar value of international shipments, with more than $62 billion in cargo annually. South Carolina boasts more than 470 warehousing and distribution centers across the state, and these centers employ more than 34,000 individuals in the state.

“The South Carolina State Ports Authority is proud to have Moulton Logistics Management in the Port of Charleston,” said Jim Newsome, president and CEO of SCSPA. “The Port of Charleston’s deep channels coupled with our commitment to customer satisfaction and productivity offer an unmatched benefit to Moulton Logistics and any company seeking the highest quality service along the East Coast.”

Moulton Logistics Management plans to begin hiring by the end of the year. Individuals interested in employment opportunities can email a resume to [email protected].
