Plans are underway for a new rail line to connect to the future Volvo site, which sits within Camp Hall Commerce Park in Berkeley County, according to a news release.
Palmetto Railways, a division of the S.C. Department of Commerce, plans to hold a public meeting next month to introduce the proposed rail line. A rail strategy has been in the works for months but Commerce has declined to comment on it previously.
If approved, the rail line will connect Camp Hall Commerce Park to an existing railroad right-of-way near the Santee Cooper Cross Generating Station in Berkeley County.
Palmetto Railways will construct, own and operate the rail line. The project is expected to take three years to complete.
