Sentek Global recently opened its fourth location in Charleston.

The San Diego-based company provides government and commercial IT security, and it works closely with SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic. It has a contract to conduct system engineering and information assurance work for the center.

“We’ve been expanding our services for the agency’s offices there, and it made a great deal of sense to have a permanent presence in the area,” said Andrew Nugent, vice president of command and control systems for Sentek Global. Nugent will also head the Charleston office.

The office opened May 19 and currently has five full-time employees. It will continue to add employees or transfer people from its other offices in San Diego or Washington, D.C., said Sentek spokesman David Oates.

“Our typical engineer has more than 12 years of experience, a bachelor’s or master’s engineering or technical degree and often a Professional Engineer certification,” said company President Eric Basu.

Sentek Global’s Charleston office is located in the Lowcountry Innovation Center in the former Navy Yard in North Charleston.
