SC schools among top public schools in U.S. News & World Report ranking

Clemson University ranks No. 22 among national public institutions, according to the annual ranking by U.S. News & World Report.

The university is the most highly ranked public institution in the state.

“We’re pleased that Clemson has maintained its No. 22 ranking among all national public universities. This is our highest ranking ever and places us in the company of some of the most highly regarded research universities in America,” Clemson President James Barker said.

In the overall rankings comparing national public and private schools, Clemson and the University of South Carolina ranked 61st and 110th, respectively. USC ranked No. 55 among public universities. S.C. State University was rated as a Tier 3 school.

America’s Best Colleges 2010, part of U.S. News & World Report magazine, went on newsstands Thursday. The report has several different listings for a variety of categories.

The undergraduate international business program at USC remains No. 1 for the 13th consecutive year.

The Citadel and the College of Charleston ranked No. 5 and No. 10, respectively, among the best master’s universities in the South. Charleston Southern University and Francis Marion University both ranked as Tier 3 schools in that category

Claflin University in Orangeburg was ranked No. 12 among the best baccalaureate colleges in the South.
