The state Film Commission has awarded a $208,000 grant to the film and television department at Trident Technical College.

The grant will be used to fund industry-led seminars for South Carolina students and industry professionals to elevate local production and filmmaking skills. The funding was provided through the S.C. Motion Picture Incentive Act.

“Jobs in the creative economy are high-paying and help to position South Carolina for continued growth,” said Chad Prosser, director of the state Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism, which oversees the film agency.

Dr. Mary Thornley, president of Trident Technical College, said enrollment in the school’s film and television program continues to grow.
