Valley Forge Flag Company announces new facility to locate in the Charleston areaOct. 1, 2005 For Immediate Release
Valley Forge Flag’s relocation from Womelsdorf, PA, will consolidate the company’s manufacturing and distribution operations into the state of South Carolina. The company’s new South Carolina operation will join three other facilities already located in the state. Dyeing and printing take place in Olanta while sewing is done in operations located in Smoaks and Lane. Valley Forge’s American, state and international flag components are 100% manufactured in the United States. “By selecting the Charleston region, we improve and shorten our supply chain, thereby strengthening the company’s efficiencies,” stated Michael Liberman, president of Valley Forge Flag. Building construction is complete and the transfer of goods and personnel is underway. An estimated 70 people will be employed in the start-up phase. Bill McCall, chairman of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, welcomed the news. “The region has once again attracted a top quality, value-driven company. Valley Forge Flag did its homework, and we rose to the top. We’re very pleased that this dynamic company has chosen to become a part of our business community.” “We know that Valley Forge Flag also considered other locations for this operation,” said Jim Rozier, Berkeley County Supervisor and County Council Chairman. “We intend to prove every day that the company made the right decision in choosing to locate in Berkeley County.” In facilitating announcements such as today’s, the Alliance works with numerous public and private allies. Its relationship with the South Carolina Department of Commerce has been of particular importance through the years. “This announcement is another step forward in this administration's work creating jobs in South Carolina,” said Governor Mark Sanford. “In addition to announcements like this, we're going to keep pushing to create a more competitive business environment so that our economic development teams have the tools they need to continue growing the economy.” “We are focused on making South Carolina more competitive in terms of attracting jobs and capital investment,” said Commerce Secretary Bob Faith. “That starts with helping companies understand the competitive advantages that make the Palmetto State a great place to do business. In this case, we are extremely pleased the Valley Forge Flag recognized our world-class transportation infrastructure and our highly efficient Port of Charleston.
