Charleston-Based Garden & Gun Magazine Wins National Awards

Garden & Gun, the magazine based in Charleston for everything Southern, has earned two top journalism awards.

The magazine earned an award for General Excellence from the National Magazine Awards, a top journalism industry award. Competing against top magazines, like Condé Nast Traveler and Martha Stewart Living, Garden & Gun took the top honor for the Food, Travel and Design Magazines.”

“The Southerner’s Guide to Oysters” by Rick Bragg earned the publication a James Beard Foundation Award in the “Food Culture and Travel” category. Bragg’s oyster story begins with an account of how the author’s developed a distaste for oysters and how he learned to love these bivalves. Then, the story describes some of the best oyster bars in the South and includes oyster recipes.
