Charleston Bed Race Helps “Kids Kickin’ Cancer”

I’ve always heard of bed races in other cities, but now Charleston is getting one too! The inaugural Charleston Bed Race will take place in Hampton Park Sunday at 3 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for Camp Happy Days, a summer camp experience for kids with cancer.

The event will start with a parade of beds which will be judged on various aspects like speed (or lack of speed), decorations (or bad decorations and People’s Choice Award.  The actual race portion of the event will involve heats with two beds at a time racing a distance of approximately two city blocks, with a challenge to be determined halfway through the course. These heats will continue until we are down to two beds. The fun continues until we have a bed race champion team who will reign for the year. Beer and food will be served.

The deadline for participation has already ended, but I’m sure a spectator’s view will be quite entertaining!
