Charleston Community Guide helps you feel at home

September 5, 2018

The Charleston region is a great place to live, and everyday new residents are taking advantage of opportunities to make Charleston their home. To ensure we have the resources available to help all residents more easily settle in, the Charleston Regional Development Alliance (CRDA) created the Charleston Community Guide, a comprehensive website providing an overview of what makes our community special and provides helpful resources for making this three-county region your new home.

The website is useful for anyone already in the community or those looking to move here. Whether you’re an HR professional, a realtor, a transplant from Goose Creek to Summerville, or a new international resident relocating from overseas, we hope this Guide is a helpful place to start.

Two new pages highlighting resources relating to Charleston’s international community have just been added and more content updates are planned. Looking for a piece of home or interested in connecting with another culture in our community? You can find those resources in the Guide.

“As an international professional who moved to Charleston from Abu Dhabi in 2017, I wish I’d had a resource such as the Charleston Community Guide when my wife and I were thinking about moving to Charleston. It takes so much of the guesswork out of where to live, where to find employment, and how to connect with the international community.  I couldn’t be happier with this resource.”

Islah Farooqui is a new Charleston resident who has quickly jumped in to support our region’s Global Fluency Initiative. Originally from the UK and most recently relocating from the UAE, he’s already helped develop new content for the Charleston Community Guide to aid other new residents.

Local realtor Eve Greene adds: “This has been an amazing tool for my international buyers and local buyers as well.  I have been told that it is a great starting point for them to acclimate themselves to our community and for some of them, to US customs and services in general.  For my local buyers it has been a wealth of information as to the many cultures that are actually living here in Charleston, and they love that it will have ethnic grocer and restaurant knowledge.”

We hope you’ll continue to use and share the Charleston Community Guide. If you’re already a local resident, we challenge you to be a community ambassador by welcoming newcomers and helping them become part of this special place.
