Charleston Metro One of Ten Markets to Lead Post-Pandemic Rally

Only a few weeks into the new year, and it is safe to say we are all still hungry for good news … positive stories … silver linings.

Well, the Charleston region is moving in that direction with National Association of Realtors listing our regional economy as one of the top 10 markets nationwide for opportunity in 2021 and 2022. With lower interest rates, more home-based work and school, and a strong, resilient foundational economy, the Charleston area set records in residential real estate in 2020 despite the pandemic, and is poised for another great year in 2021, according to this latest NAR report.

In other good economic news, consumer spending and job openings in our metro area returned to pre-COVID levels before year-end 2020. These two indicators reflect the positive outlook of both consumers and businesses in the Charleston region.

As we look further into the future, even taking into account the impacts of COVID-19, we expect more than 28,000 new jobs to be added in the region over the next five years, including hospitality industry jobs. Many of those jobs may come back in the latter part of the five year period, but they will come back! Remember greater Charleston is a top travel destination across the country and across the globe!
