Finding Your Way Home

By: Claire Gibbons

Moving to a new neighborhood or city can be overwhelming. Imagine moving to a new country! The whole prospect can feel daunting, particularly if you’re moving to the U.S. for the first time. Where do you start? How do you find the place that feels right, is convenient to work, has the right schools for your family, and offers the lifestyle you want?

Wouldn’t it be great if a comprehensive site existed that helped you start evaluating those decisions and linked you to resources for more info?

Well happy day and welcome home! The Charleston Regional Development Alliance (CRDA) has created the Charleston Community Guide. This website offers an overview of what makes our community special and provides helpful resources for making this three-county region your new home.

Full of helpful links to regional resources, CharlestonCommunityGuide.com provides a one-stop overview for settling into the region. Content will continue to be added over time, and while it may not be exhaustive, it serves as a good starting point.

Area information includes:

  • Community Information: Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties, and cities
  • Education Resources: K-12 and higher education
  • Working in Charleston
  • Healthcare & Wellness
  • Recreation & Sports
  • Arts & Culture

The Charleston Community Guide is designed to help folks moving within the three-county Charleston metro navigate the region and better integrate into the community. This metro area is a thriving, dynamic, historically rich, culturally vibrant place to visit, live, work, play, raise a family, and retire. All are welcome here.

If you’re already a local resident, I challenge you to be a community ambassador, by welcoming newcomers and helping them become part of this special place. Please share this Community Guide and other resources with your colleagues and contacts, then challenge them to spread Charleston hospitality too!
