A North Charleston high school was named among the 10 best in the country by U.S. News and World Report.
Academic Magnet High School took the No. 8 spot on the report’s 2016 national rankings of the best high schools. It was the top-ranked school in South Carolina, followed by Charleston School of the Arts, which shares its North Charleston campus. School of the Arts was No. 349 nationally.
The report noted that Academic Magnet, with a 14:1 student-teacher ratio and 100% graduation rate, offers all honors or Advanced Placement courses, and each student completes a yearlong independent research project.
Academic Magnet was also third on the best magnet schools list and 55th on the list of best schools for STEM — science, technology, engineering and math.
