Etiquette expert Marjabelle Young Stewart has once again selected Charleston the Best Mannered City in the United States. Charleston has been on the list all 24 years it has been compiled, with the year 2000 being the seventh consecutive year Charleston ranks in the top slot.

“Charleston is honored to be crowned for its gracious and genteel qualities as the Most Mannerly City in America,” says Robert L. Freeman, chairman of the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Board of Governors. “Charleston has become the role model for America on how to treat others in a hospitable, friendly way…this honor shows that true southern charm is an enduring tradition in Charleston.”

Mrs. Stewart’s top ten list is based on comments of executives and others who have completed her etiquette courses. She runs over 400 finishing schools across the country and is the author of approximately 30 books, including Common Sense Etiquette, and is recognized as the most published etiquette educator and author in the world.

This year Charleston was followed by the Quad cities of Illinois and Iowa who earned the number two ranking. Milwaukee, Wisconsin came in at number three, Las Vegas, Nevada at number four, and Mobile, Alabama rated number five. Those were followed in order by the cities of Seattle, Savannah, San Francisco and Chicago. Rounded out the list were Omaha, Nebraska tying with Council Bluffs, Iowa for the number 10 slot.
