Steve Warner, vice president of global competitiveness for the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, and research analyst Jacki Renegar gave Chamber members the lowdown on the region’s economic track record and answered questions.

They touched on the importance of supporting science, technology, engineering and math education; infrastructure and other associated obstacles for a good work environment; and the area’s seemingly apparent ability to produce fast-growing companies.

The scorecard, available on the CRDA’s website, is produced by the Regional Alliance with the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. It tracks economic progress in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.

According to the scorecard, higher education leaders are aligning curricula “to meet the needs of innovative technology-driven businesses, and are significantly increasing STEAM degree offerings at all Charleston area colleges/universities.” The scorecard also mentions the Youth Apprentice Program, a partnership between the Charleston Metro Chamber, Trident Technical College and Apprenticeship Carolina that trains students to work in high-skill technology positions.
