Mount Pleasant-based Ion Surgical Technologies has received $200,000 in its first investment of startup funds from SC Launch.

The announcement was made Tuesday at the MedTech Conference in Greenville.

Ion Surgical, which was started in October, has developed products that aid in the healing from injuries the rotator cuff and the anterior cruciate ligament. The two main products are the PassTech Rotator Cuff Repair Kit and the PassTech ACL Fixation Kit.

“Companies like Ion Surgical who offer bio-medical applications lead directly to both improved care and leadership commercialization outcomes in South Carolina,” said Bill Mahoney, CEO of the S.C. Research Authority.

SC Launch, which is an affiliate of SCRA, is providing Ion Surgical with startup investment funds, ongoing mentoring and access to its resource network services.

“SC Launch and SCRA have been far more than investors — they’ve been leading-edge business consultants who have contributed greatly to our success in many ways. Their investment serves as a bridge to move our product designs into production,” said Brian Dross, founder and president of Ion Surgical Technologies.
