NexGen Composites Locates in Charleston Region
Composite panel manufacturer to create 18 jobs over five years

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston region’s advanced materials sector has added a new key player, NexGen Composites, LLC. NexGen manufactures lightweight composite structural panels for a variety of commercial and military applications. NexGen also delivers complete composite structural solutions including design, engineering, manufacturing, outfitting, assembly and testing.

The company is launching its first S.C. operation in Charleston County at 7281 Cross Park Drive, North Charleston with an initial investment of $100,000 in the first two years. They are hiring five positions to start: three full-time manufacturing and two engineering/management roles. Additional local growth and investment is anticipated, including expanding to 18 jobs over the next five years. The company considered expanding in Dayton, Ohio, before deciding to locate in North Charleston.

“We are excited to establish a manufacturing facility in Charleston. This new facility will specialize in the design and manufacturing of containerized structures as well as welding, fabrication and assembly of lightweight aluminum structures. The Charleston facility will greatly complement our fiberglass composite panel manufacturing capabilities in Ohio. The availability of skilled workforce, proximity to the Port of Charleston and key customers were important factors in our decision to select this strategic location. The business-friendly climate and the support from the regional economic development authorities have been extremely helpful. We look forward to growing our business in the Charleston area in the near future.” – NexGen President and CEO, Dr. Rob Banerjee

Founded in 2012 in Dayton, Ohio, NexGen manufactures advanced composite panels for modular shelters, shipping containers, and specialty structures for military and commercial applications. The company’s products are unique due to extensive use of its proprietary lightweight, corrosion-resistant, fire-rated, fiberglass composite insulated panels. NexGen also specializes in containerized structures as well as welding and fabrication of lightweight aluminum structures.

“The Charleston region is fortunate to have NexGen Composites join the ranks of our growing innovative ecosystem. Our strong workforce, culture, and key connections to the defense industry will provide advantages for NexGen Composites to excel, and we look forward to supporting the company in its endeavors for years to come.”      – Charleston County Council Chairman J. Elliott Summey

“I am honored to welcome NexGen to the City of North Charleston. It is our pledge to maintain a business-friendly environment that fosters innovation and growth in the marketplace. I look forward to NexGen’s future developments and broadening capabilities into additional industries in the Charleston region.”– North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey

“We are so pleased to welcome NexGen Composites to our community and look forward to its continued growth and success. This was a seamless team effort, and the region’s available talent and business-friendly climate made all the difference.” – Charleston Regional Development Alliance Board Chair Todd Gallati
