COLUMBIA, SC – Saloni Ceramica, one of Spain’s largest tile manufacturers, today became South Carolina’s first Spanish-affiliated industry to locate in the state. The company announced the location of its first United States’ warehouse and distribution facility in North Charleston and will lease 10,000 square feet from the Standard Corporation located at 2001 Mabeline Road.

The Spanish company, which has a presence in over 100 countries, looked at many U.S. sites including Atlanta and Savannah before selecting Charleston due to its access to residential and commercial tile and flooring centers. Saloni Ceramica was founded 28 years ago and has continued to develop four large product lines: floor tiles, wall tiles, ceramic special pieces, as well as porcelain tiles, the company’s newest innovation.

“Saloni Ceramica has found a home here, where international companies become South Carolina companies,” said Governor Jim Hodges. “Saloni Ceramica searched for the perfect site and discovered what hundreds of world-class companies know – that our positive business climate and exceptional training programs blend together to help them succeed.”

“Saloni Ceramica’s announcement is great news for South Carolina and international business,” said Secretary of Commerce Charles S. Way, Jr. “As the state’s first Spanish manufacturer, Saloni will soon understand how access to new markets and established customers will give them a boost in today’s extremely competitive business climate. We know with this announcement Saloni Ceramica will show other Spanish manufacturers why they too, should call South Carolina their second business address.”

“When Saloni searched for a location, we were interested in primarily three things – access to an efficient port, a facility with lots of room to grow, and a region that was receptive to new international business,” said Augusto Cucala, sales director for Saloni Ceramica, “We got everything we wanted and more. In fact, as we traveled around Charleston we knew we had found THE place for our expanding company in South Carolina. Charleston’s European feel reminds us of home.”

“We welcome Saloni Ceramica to the Charleston corporate family, “said Barrett Lawrimore, chairman of Charleston County Council. “There has never been a better natural fit, and this high quality international newcomer has perfect timing. Our transportation advantages, quality of life, and booming residential growth are a recipe for profits. We wish them great success and longevity here in Charleston.”

“The Charleston region has long welcomed international investment, and today’s announcement by Saloni Ceramica represents a welcome addition to our global business community. We are confident that the company will find this to be one of the best expansion decisions they have ever made,” said William A. Moody, Jr., chairman of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.

“Saloni like so many other international firms has discovered the business friendly climate of our city,” said North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey. “We welcome our newest and first Spanish manufacturer and look forward to their success and future expansion.”

Saloni Ceramica is one of Spain’s leading manufacturers of quality tile products operating in over 100 countries. The company has global sales of $105 million and about 850 employees worldwide. The company can be reached at www.saloni.com.
