SC Codes launches free Java Concepts course

SC Codes, a statewide program aimed at providing free access to code education to all residents of South Carolina, today launched a new online programming course titled “Java Concepts.” It’s one of several free courses available on the SC Codes platform aimed at helping upskill the workforce and fill the void of unfilled technology jobs in the state.

Programming skills are in demand by employers across the state, and the goal of SC Codes is to help our local workforce gain those skills at no cost. At last count, there were nearly 1000 open jobs for web developers in South Carolina. According to CompTIA, employment in the tech industry expanded by over 4,000 jobs in 2018 and the tech sector represents 6.3% of our state’s economy.
