Six biotech startup companies that were given initial funding through SC Launch have been selected to participate in the Southeast BIO Investor Forum on Dec. 3 and 4 at Charleston Place Hotel.

Four companies will participate in the forum’s segment for early stage companies:

• Immunologix Inc.: The company specializes in transforming b-cells to allow them to produce antibodies that can target antigens. Immunologix participated in the forum’s business plan competition last year.

• Ion Surgical Technologies Inc.: It has created new products for treatment of anterior cruciate ligament and rotator cuff injuries and has created an interactive e-commerce distribution system.

• Kiyatec LLC: It has commercialized advanced cell culture plasticware and diagnostics that will reduce the time and cost of life science research, drug discovery and personalized medicine.

• MicroVide: It develops and manufactures applications that measure pathways and drug effects in patients, creating a more personalized medicine through which patients can be treated with a drug for maximum therapeutic benefit.

And two companies have been selected as finalists in the BioPlan competition:

• EpiEP: It has the technology to allow physicians to safely access the pericardial cavity to treat conditions such as ventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation.

• Restorative Physiology Group LLC: It is involved in the design and development of implantable devices for treatment of spinal diseases. Its technology allows implantation of devices that are significantly larger than the access needed to place them.

SC Launch is an affiliate of the S.C. Research Authority.
