Notes from the 2019 Paris Air Show

June 26, 2019

Charleston Regional Development Alliance traveled to the 2019 Paris Air Show as part of Team South Carolina. The show started out at a measured pace with uncertainty around 737 MAX reentry and transitions within global supply chain organization. As the show progressed, so did the energy.

I learned about exciting developments with Safran Electrical & Power in the U.S. The company specializes in aerospace power generation and distribution, aerospace services, wiring interconnection systems, ventilation systems, and engineering services. Safran USA CEO Peter Lengyel previewed some of the amazing R&D underway, as the company looks for opportunities to expand its Charleston presence.

We announced at the Paris Air Show that the Charleston region has added a new key aerospace supplier, AHG Fasteners-USA, Inc., which designs, manufactures, and sells fastening systems for the aerospace industry, including to local customer, Boeing.

The show ended on a positive, optimistic outlook on the future of aerospace and mobility, and I’m also bullish our region’s role in supporting those efforts.

Ten years after Boeing decided to locate the 787 facility in our market, Charleston’s aerospace ecosystem is well-positioned. We can support companies looking for acquisition opportunities, and since those are currently in short supply globally, we offer an affordable alternative with ready-to-go buildings and greenfield sites, a talented young workforce, and a business community that supports efficient start up.

If you are a company seeking an expansion opportunity, I invite you to consider Charleston and please don’t hesitate to contact me.
