South Carolina and the Charleston region have been very fortunate over the past few years to win numerous accolades, rankings, and most importantly, economic development projects. Recently, we learned WalletHub named South Carolina the 2nd best state for military retirees.

You may be asking, why does that matter? Well, as the article points out, separating from the military is always difficult and the transition back into civilian life is not always easy. So, being a place welcoming to veterans, providing economic opportunities and a high quality of life, and taking care of their physical and mental health is extremely important.

CRDA recognizes the critical role veterans (and military spouses) play in our region’s workforce. Every year, 900+ members of the military separate from Joint Base Charleston. Our regional workforce will be stronger, and our businesses will thrive, if we are able to keep these well-trained and motivated individuals who are in their prime working years in Charleston.

That is why CRDA is excited to partner with the South Carolina Manufacturer’s Alliance, SC FutureMakers, and many other community partners for the SC Military Community Virtual Career Fair on June 23rd.

The Career Fair uses a mobile platform called Ping by Tallo (a Charleston company), which is a matchmaking system for jobseekers and employers. The event will feature numerous South Carolina employers such as Boeing, MUSC, and Nucor Steel who are looking to hire veterans, transitioning military personnel, and military spouses.

Charleston and South Carolina are leading the way in helping our military transition into the civilian world. Please help us spread the word about the diverse employment opportunities available in the Charleston region. To learn more visit, CharlestonCareers.org.
