On the Road Again with Karen and Mike

Did you know the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) has one of the most robust transplant programs in the nation? Located in the heart of downtown Charleston, MUSC has become a powerhouse of innovation and research and is a critical piece of the region’s life sciences ecosystem.

Charleston Regional Development Alliance (CRDA) was excited to co-sponsor Biotech Week Boston with MUSC in September. Colleagues from MUSC, SCBIO, and Charleston County accompanied CRDA VP Mike Graney and me in Boston. The conference (and tradeshow) is a compilation of 15 conferences with over 5,000 attendees from across the world. Over the course of three days, we met with several life sciences companies and hosted two events.

The highlight of our week was hearing Dr. Satish Nadig, MUSC’s Endowed Chair in Solid Organ Transplantation, speak at our breakfast event. He explained the innovation and research taking place at MUSC, specifically in the Transplant Center. Dr. Nadig described the study he is conducting and its potential to significantly improve the success rate and longevity of transplants. Learn more by watching Dr. Nadig’s TedxTalk here.
