Rent-a-Chick Program Returns to Legare Farms

The month of Easter is filled with TV commercials with cute, cuddly chicks. Now, you can bring your own Easter chick home from Legare Farms’ Rent-a-Chick program.

Rent-a-Chick began eight years ago and is open to school children, teachers and families. According to a Post & Courier article, “The purpose of the program is twofold. First: the farm’s education foundation gets to spread the word on the cycle of life and where local food comes from. Second: the $25 rental fee helps pay a small portion toward promoting the farm’s agri-tourism efforts.”

For $25, participants will get a two week-old chick, water dispenser, living box and feed to last two weeks. The chicks usually quadruple in size over the two weeks, and may even begin to try flying. When the program concludes, participants can keep the birds for $10, or return them and receive a dozen free eggs in the autumn.

There are two pick-ups remaining –April 22 and 23–so reserve a chick now by calling 843-559-0788!
