CRDA is pleased to welcome James Chappell, the new President and CEO of SCBIO, to our state. As a member of the SCBIO Board of Directors and the Search Committee, I was fortunate to meet James during the selection process. His credentials are stellar, starting with multiple degrees from Clemson while also finding time to play football, a Ph.D. from LSU, and post doc work at Harvard.

He did consulting work in New England before landing in a high profile economic development position in Louisiana. You can find out more by reading the press release.

James will be well received by economic development professionals, academics, hospital and healthcare executives, and the leaders of our life science companies. He is an excellent choice to move SCBIO forward following the terrific work by previous CEO Sam Konduros and COO Erin Ford, who propelled SCBIO to four years of exponential growth. Kudos to Erin as well for guiding the organization through this interim period between CEOs. SCBIO’s staff is well positioned to continue the growth appropriate for the state’s fastest-growing industry.

Welcome home, James. We look forward to working with you in Charleston. There’s a lot of opportunity here for innovative life science companies and leaders.
