The British are coming

Recently, the Right Honourable Penny Mordaunt MP, Minister of State for Trade of United Kingdom, undertook the longest ever visit to the United States by a UK government official. During her 11 days in the U.S., Minister Mordaunt visited California, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and South Carolina. CRDA was pleased to host the minister and the UK’s Consul General in Atlanta, Andrew Staunton, in Charleston.

While in Charleston, Minister Mordaunt and Consul General Staunton met local stakeholders to discuss sustainability and trade. At a panel on sustainability held at WestEdge, the duo provided insights on the recent COP26 conference held in Scotland in November 2021. Ethel Bunch of Sustain SC highlighted the innovative activities South Carolina businesses are leading to drive sustainability.

Afterwards, the SC Ports Authority hosted Minister Mordaunt and Consul General Staunton for a Port of Charleston tour and briefing on the deepwater port’s capabilities and key freight links between South Carolina and UK ports.

We appreciated the opportunity to host our British friends! And while this delegation’s visit is over, interest in the Charleston market from UK companies and talent continues to grow. Are you a British business interested in learning more about expansion opportunities in Charleston? Drop me a line to get connected to a member of our team. You’re in good company here.
